An Idea For a Rainy Day
We have many people in my area who walk everywhere. Today it was raining, and I had a thought. I would go to the dollar store, and buy a bunch of umbrellas. If I see someone walking in the rain, I could stop and give them an umbrella to use.

Make It A Shay Day!
At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: 'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?' The audience was stilled by the query. The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child' Then he told the following story: Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. ... Helping When You Need Help
We attended a benefit dinner for a family in our church tonight. A member in their family has been ill for awhile now, and this has caused a great financial strain on the family. Church members have assisted them with cleaning, preparing meals, and have helped them keep their pantry full of food.
During the dinner they had an auction. They auctioned mostly services that the teens of the church would be providing, babysitting, singing lessons, and guitar lessons to name a few. They auctioned a batch of cinnamon buns, and my husband had the high bid of $40. While we are having some hard times of our own financially, I thought it was awesome that he contributed to this family in their time of need. (Our family is fortunate to all have our health, and a place to live.)
When you think you have it bad, there is always someone who is having a much harder time of it... I am thankful that I have a husband who is so thoughtful.

Share Your Magazines
I get several magazines in the mail monthly.
I hate to just throw they away, so I leave them in the breakroom where I work.
This way I am recycling, and someone gets to read some great magazines for free!

The Purpose Of A Dog
[ I lost my dog Samson back in February, one fo the hardest things in my life. My sister just sent this to me, and I believe it's true. After all Dog is God spelled backwards. :) ] Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, I felt the ... Read Full Story >>

Say Thank You!
I had to go to the emergency room last night, and had the nicest nurse care for me. I thought I would send a letter to the hospital praising her excellent care.
I think we all should try and praise people that give us excellent service :)

Giving support to a co-worker
Recently one of my co-workers children was diagnosed with Lukemia. I purchased an awareness necklace for her, and when we go back to work on the 2nd, I will give it to her with a smile card.
I will also write a note to tell her to keep her faith that her child will pull through this and be healthier than ever. Her friends at work will be there for her for whatever she needs. I have never really spoken to her, except the casual chat near the copier machines, so I thought this would be nice for her.

Passing on the Smiles
I have been getting packs of smile cards in the mail, usually a few a week. My daughter who is 10 asked me about them the other day. I explained what they were for, and what to do with them.
She is going to drop her first smile card tomorrow to one of her favorite teachers. She is going to write a letter of appreciation to this teacher, and attach a smile card to the letter, and place it in her mail box. I am going to write the letter for her, so the teacher doesn't recognize her handwriting. Just think of the smile that will come from her letter :)

Pushing Some Snow
Yesterday we had a few inches of snow.
School was letting out, and I was getting into my car.
I saw a teacher just leaving school, and her car was covered with snow. She was using her bare hands to try and clean off her car.
I had a snow brush in my car, and helped her clean off her car.

Mailbox goodies
Everyday I pick one or two teachers, or staff at my school, and drop a treat, and a smile card in their box. Just something small like a candy bar, or the book Random Acts of Kindness. If I give them the book I write in it I hope this makes you smile, please read it and pass it on... :)
