On a Kindness Mission with my Smile Cards
My second lot of Smile Cards arrived last week, and I have been trying to think of uses for them. Today, before I headed into town for a job interview, I decided to grab a handful and try to use as many as I could throughout the day. The weather was awful, it was pouring with rain, and I would've loved to buy umbrellas for people. But being unemployed, I didn't have the money to spare. So instead, I decided to think of free or really cheap ways to make people smile -- after all, even the little things count. I knew I'd also have to deal with my shyness, or just create anonymous acts of kindness, but it was a challenge I was willing to accept! Before leaving my house, I filled a bag with some items that I no longer use and prepared to drop it off at a charity shop in town. ... Read Full Story >>

Welcome To The Kindness Game
I am a member of a blogging site and through sharing my stories and commenting on other people's I have made a few good on-line friends.
One of my friends wrote a blog about an unexpected electricity bill she was struggling to pay. She said her kind-hearted daughter was prepared to give up most of her wages from her summer job to help pay it off.
I decided that this deserved a reward!
I sent my friend an email asking her to trust me with her address. She did and I sent a little gift box filled with goodies for her daughter, and a card to let her know that she was being rewarded for being awesome!
Today I found out that she received it and wants to join in the game of random acts of kindness - even though she's been doing it already!

Vouchers For You. Yes, You!
I got a voucher booklet for a fast-food place but as I'm vegan there were only a few I could actually use.
I gave some of the spare ones to non-vegan friends then I put the remaining vouchers in an envelope with a Smile card. On the envelope, in large, bold, lettering I wrote, "For you! Yes, you! Pick me up!" Then I left it on a seat on the bus in the hope that the vouchers would be of use to someone (and wouldn't be found by a vegetarian!).
As I was getting off the bus I noticed a young girl, who looked like a student, looking at the envelope. She kept glancing at it, unsure whether or not to pick it up. But I was pleased to see, as the bus pulled away, that she had it in her hands.
It was just a small thing but hopefully it cheered her day up a little bit.

Replacement CD
My friend's car was stolen and he was really upset about it. Especially as all the CDs he owned were in the car. Just a few hours earlier I'd been in the car with him and he'd been playing a new CD, so I decided to buy him a replacement for that CD. I know it's not much consolation but at least he'll have some music to listen to at home.

Sometimes Letting Go of A Five is Hard
I read online that many people were giving the first plastic five pound notes they received in change/from the bank to charity and then two days later I got one. I couldn't really afford to give it to charity but wanted to, but for a few days it stayed in my wallet while I tried to decide what to do. As I was traveling to visit some friends, a homeless man approached me and said he'd eaten nothing for two days. He assured me he never drank or took drugs and he seemed genuine. I normally don't give cash to people who ask; I'd rather just buy them food if they're hungry. But I remembered that 'fiver' in my wallet, so I gave that to him. He was expecting rejection, or maybe some loose change at best, so he had tears in his eyes and couldn't thank me enough. It was then I ... Read Full Story >>

Donating My Hair to Little Princess Trust
I had almost all my hair chopped off so I could donate it to a charity called the Little Princess Trust. They make real hair wigs for girls and boys who have lost their hair (due to cancer treatment, illness etc.). My hair was roughly 35 inches long - I could almost sit on it! And now it's short and spiky. :)
Each wig costs £350 to make so I wanted to raise that amount so that I'm not just donating my hair, but also providing the money to have my hair turned into a wig. I'm getting close to my goal so wish me luck!
