Ending A Friendship With Kindness
I lost a friend last week. Business should never be mixed with friendships.
I have learned that people come into your lives and people leave your lives. I know this is the end of the friendship and so I wondered how I could make it just a little better.
I decided to write my friend a letter to say how important our friendship was to me. To say what a difference he made in my life. To highlight the good times and to say thank you for those.
I also wrote the letter to wish him wonderful things in life. I wanted to end it positively. At first I thought I was making myself vulnerable but then I realized it did not really matter. I really did value this friendship and even though it has ended in a horrible way, I refuse to look over it negatively. I want to remember the good.
Thank you my friend. Our walk has ended together but you will be special in my heart always.

Two Boys Knocking Our Car Window
Last night my partner and I went out to get some take-aways. While I sat in the car waiting for him, two little boys knocked on my car window. I let them chat to me. In that moment, I knew they needed me and so I listened. They had no jerseys on and no shoes. They were cold and tired. They were selling cakes to bring money into their home for food. They are a family of 6. Their mom is ill with breast cancer and their dad has lost his job. They have no food and very little clothing. We bought most of what they had. (Then gave it to a hungry person at a traffic light on our way home.) We also bought them each a burger, they were hungry. They needed to go back home and for this they had to take a taxi, late at night. My heart ... Read Full Story >>

The Casual Day
My daughter goes to a special needs school and every year they are involved with Casual Day. This year I helped the school sell approximately 9000 tickets, with all my contacts, friends and family.
The smiles of appreciation, the children's laughter, the rewards .... enormous.
Today I decided my daughter had to look special on this special day ... I stuck gorgeous star stickers all over her face and put a T-shirt on her that says, "I may not be a STAR right now but I will be someday!"
The theme today is "Be a Star". She is a star today, my star, my special, loving, gorgeous, angel child.
Here's to you today Brittany! We love you in unmeasurable quantities!

Here's to a Smile Delivery Guy
Everyday I am greeted with a smile by my newspaper delivery guy. Despite any weather conditions, he smiles and greets me with a happy "morning mammy" each and every day. The day would be bleak if he was not there because I have gotten so used to him!
So, I got to thinking, what can I do to make his day brighter? Instead of paying the exact price for the paper everyday, I pay him more. That way he can have some extra money at the end of the day! I also take him food every other day and, this weekend, I am going to see if I can get him a raincoat/rainjacket, to help him stay dry and warm on wet days. He needs a lot of things and I will be helping him to achieve small goals, one at a time, as and when I can.
Here's to you newspaper delivery guy!! You bring joy to many lives, with just your smile! You probably do not even know this, but you brighten my day with your smile every single day!
Why don't we all do this? Tell your "newspaper guy" he is special!

Eight People in One House
I work with a young lady that lives in a house she shares with 8 other people. Two are children. None of the other adults have a job. She supports them with food and everything else they all need. She earns a very modest salary and they struggle to survive.
Her mother lives with her too. I have offered her mother domestic work at my house on Saturdays in order to supplement their income. I also supply all old clothes and shoes from my home that we do not use anymore. I help with food sometimes when I can too.
I believe in helping where you can. I know that I have at least made a difference in the lives of 9 other people over the last few months.

A Colleague In Need
I could see she was in need today. She needed empathy. She needed somebody to show her an act of kindness.
I did not speak much because she had cried so many tears already and I did not want to start her off again.
Instead, I went to the kitchen and prepared a very sweet, wonderful, dessert to make her smile.
The smile did not happen but I could see she really appreciated the small act of nurturing. I just wanted to say: "I am here as a friend if you need me, no pressure"
She may smile tomorrow, but even if she does not, I will be here anyway, or the next day or the next.
