Top 10 Stories of 2012 - Story #2 - Finding A Job..when You Least Expect It!

So I haven't held a job since April of 2011 due to multiple health issues. I currently draw disability but am having trouble finding money at the end of the month so I decided I would look for a partime job. I have been applying, interviewing, etc since July with no prospects. I haVe been told mostly that I am overqualified, or they need fulltime etc. I had been getting pretty discouraged. I started my randomn act of kindness way back in February for me personally, not to get anything back but a good feeling. One Garbage Bag at a Time

I live in an apartment building where there are several elderly people and other tenants that are on a low or fixed income. There is a older gentleman neighbor of mine that is always willing to help out and go out of his way to help anyone in need. A few weeks ago, I was taking a large amount of trash out to the dumpster. This neighbor saw me and stopped to help me as he was taking out his own trash. When we got to the dumpster, he dumped his trash out of the bag. However, he kept his trash bag. "Why don't you throw the trash bag away?" I asked him. He replied that he has been using the same trash bag for a couple of months because he really didn't have money to spare to buy new ones. Feeding Stomach and Soul

Over this past weekend, I walked to the local gas station to pick up a couple of things. On my walk home, an older gentleman came up to me and asked if I had any money for him to get something to eat. I told him that I don't carry cash, but if he wanted to follow me, I can get him some food. We walked to my apartment and talked the whole way. He was a veteran from the Vietnam War and recently lost his banking job that he held for over 20 years in banking. He had recently become homeless, and he shared that he has no living relatives left in the area. He felt all alone, with no idea where he was going to sleep tonight. Love Beats Hate On The City Bus

I take the city bus everywhere. Today on my way home I had a very interesting experience that showed me what being kind is all about. At a bus stop a group of people got on. You could tell by the way they talked and acted that they had some cognitive deficiencies. The bus was pretty full and there weren't many seats available. One of the group who had just boarded, a young woman, walked down the aisle towards an empty seat. Just as she got there the lady sitting beside it moved over and said, "This seat is taken."   She then started muttering rude comments and talking about "retards." Inviting Everyone

Every Thanksgiving a lot of families gather around a table full of food and give thanks for the blessings we have. Starting many years ago my family learned to spread the blessings to others not only on Thanksgiving but for every holiday. Back when I was young I always remembered people I didn't know showing up at Thanksgiving, Christmas, about any holiday! I learned later on the tradition my family started years ago that we still partake even today. Every holiday that my family and I celebrate we challenge ourselves for each family member to invite someone who doesn't have somewhere to go on the holiday. Sometimes we have tons of people and sometimes not too many. Our tradition includes taking pictures and looking over the pictures sometimes we cant even remember the names of everyone in the picture! Free To Me - A Gift To Them

Six months ago I joined an online couponing/saving website. They post a lot of free samples of products, coupons and some instant-win and other sweepstakes!   I try to enter these sweepstakes as often as possible.   Well! I won a $50 giftcard to Olive Garden recently. Instead of keeping it for myself I sent it, anonymously,  to a couple I know where the husband has been off work due to health problems. So, I know money has been tight and I know a night out would be a real treat for them.   Neither one knew it was me but the wife posted on her Facebook page that, "An angel sent me and my husband a gift-card in the mail today.
