Mom To Others

We had a young lady come to our church one Sunday and I introduced myself. We began talking about how she came to our city and church.

She came to our bible study one evening and asked me if she could get a ride home as she used public transportation and it was rather late in the evening. When I took her home I made sure that we exchanged phone numbers and told her that any time she needed a ride, or anything else, to give me a call.

Since then she has used my number for rides, getting her medicine and, so touchingly, to say thank you. When she said she considered me her mother away from home it touched my heart deeply!

Since our first meeting over a year ago we have developed a close relationship and she knows that I am there for her to share the good and bad. Her mom will be visiting in a few weeks and I am looking forward to meeting her.

The Messenger Of Encouragement

Once a week I leave a package or an envelope for a group of young adult (20+) I know. I sign it "God's Secret Messenger" and also write words of encouragement inside.

It's a treat to be able to hear the comments they make as they try to figure out who this secret messenger is! They are so grateful for the gifts and the notes of encouragement.

These young people are often from different states. Most of them do not have any family or friends in the area so to know that a stranger cares for them means a lot to.

My Secret Sister

A young boy at church touched my heart by his kindness, his caring and always wanting to help.  So, I asked his mom if I could be his second mom. She smiled, said yes and thanked me.

After church service I approached her and told her to let me know what he needed for school and I would buy it. I gave her my phone number and we have since become friends by sharing things about ourselves and our families.

At this point, I'm adopting the mom as my "secret sister" to be able to leave her things to see a smile on her face because she struggles everyday just to survive and make a life for her and her son.
