Smiles from the Hospital to Fabric Store

The other day, I had a magnificent experience of giving and receiving! It had come to my attention that a lady was going into hospital for an extended period of time.  The hospital had provided her with a list of clothing items needed to participate in the rehab program for her recovery. Because she lived on a very limited income, she didn't know how she would afford the required clothes.  I had extra almost-new clothing that were her size, so I packed up the freshly washed clothing, added several toiletries and an angel pin, and delivered them to her.  When I presented care package to her, she was completely caught off guard. :) Hopefully the extra clothes will make her recovery a bit easier and less stressful! Breakfast Made All The Difference

For many years I worked in a downtown public service organization. Through my work I would encounter so many people going through difficult times. Our doors were open to women and their families for any help we  could give.    We had a public cafeteria on our main floor with huge windows looking onto street. A number of times I saw a man passing by who looked as though he was struggling in life and may even have been homeless. He would come into the cafeteria occasionally, order a coffee, then sit and sip it quietly in a corner. Fresh Clothes And Dignity

Through my work at a public service organization I often encountered people in dire circumstance. Like the Native American woman who staggered into our lobby.   She had obviously soiled herself, been drinking heavily, and was disorientated. Luckily, someone had told her she could probably sit in our lobby and be safe.   A colleague approached me, wondering what I was going to do about this problem and how I was going to get her out of there. I was startled by this brash attitude and all I could think was, "There, but for the grace of God, go I".     At first this inebriated woman was argumentative, swearing, and waving her arms about. Forgiveness is a blessing!

Today, my father had a second round of tests that definitely confirm that he has prostate cancer.

Since my mother's death in December, he has been angry with the world and because I live with him, he has become more and more angry often taking this out on me verbally and emotionally.

Several weeks ago, it got so bad that I had to consider moving out as it was affecting my health so badly.

Today with the news of his cancer he has changed now realizing that life is short and in a miraculous way his attitude has changed for the better towards me.

I will be here to help him during his illness, as I always have been in the background trying to make things easier for him as he has been traveling through the emotions of mourning my mother.

I forgive him whole heartedly.

A Gift of Light

Earlier today, in a medical clinic, I used a pen with a light on it in the rather dim office. An elderly lady sitting next to me asked where I got it, sharing that she thought it was a good idea, especially for people with cataracts, like her.

As she was called to her appointment, I handed her the pen as a gift. She was thrilled and thanked me profusely. I hope that simple, little gift will help her light her way as she writes despite her poor vision.
